Oppo is known for its intriguing concepts exploring the future of mobile technology, but so far the company hasn’t actually launched its own foldable – although it has teased some interesting form factors over the year.
The last. Looks like that’s about to change, as the company published a blog post detailing the journey of its first foldable, the Oppo Find N, which it intends to launch in full on December 15. Needless to say, we are already up for it. First look at this day thanks to the famous Avalix leaker.
Let’s start with what is official first. Oppo says the Find N is the result of years of research and development, with the first prototype born in early 2018. Six generations of prototypes later, the company believes it’s time to go public with the product, jumping to (hopefully) lots of issues that were previously part of the foldable experiment.
With the Find N, Oppo says it wants to offer the right balance between folded and unfolded use, which translates to a less narrow front screen than what we’ve seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.
Oppo has claimed that the creases in the middle of the internal screen have been fixed, though we can’t trust the renders and teasers to be 100% honest about it. For what it’s worth, the official trailer below shows the Find N looking like a normal smartphone when it’s closed, with a regular aspect ratio for exterior viewing, and the folding really feels non-existent.

Along with this teaser and all those official details, Avlyx has released a few more press submissions, which give us an even better idea of what to expect. Notably, the images reveal a tri-camera setup on the outside of the device along with a microphone and flash.
We also see a camera in the internal display, which appears to be a classic hole-punch solution in the top left corner – there’s no complicated construction under the display as we find in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The outer screen has a similar camera setup, though focused on the top. Considering the size of the power button, we are assuming that it doubles as a fingerprint reader. The rendering also shows that there will be at least two color variations, black and white.
If all those promises and presentations are to be judged, Oppo’s foldable form factor could be the most practical version out there. However, we’ll still have to see how the foldable fits into real life, and we’ve yet to hear anything about hardware details and pricing. Oppo will reveal more about the Find N on December 15, when we learn more about it.
